Why Did This Steel Fabricator Buy a Third Profile Laser?

A first machine is usually judged by specifications, sample cuts and supplier evaluation.

A third machine is different. By then, the equipment has already been tested in daily production.

MCC (Shanghai) Steel Structure Technology Corp., Ltd. (“MCC Steel Structure”) put its first 𝗞𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗶 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗛𝗟 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 into production in 2023. Since then, it has added a second machine, and now a third.

𝗔 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀

In 2023, one of MCC Steel Structure’s manufacturing bases had around 𝟭𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱, with more than half related to export projects.

By 2025, its steel structures had reached 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟯𝟬 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, covering 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀, with cumulative exports exceeding 𝟭 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀.

For other fabricators, this gives useful context: the equipment is being used in a 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲-𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲, 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱?

When the first 𝗞𝗛𝗟 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 entered production, it marked a clear upgrade in profile processing capability.

The plant also hosted on-site visits, allowing project partners and industry visitors to see the new processing capability in actual production.

The new line was not only adding capacity — it was also a visible upgrade in what the fabricator could deliver and demonstrate.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿?

Before profile laser processing was introduced, conventional methods typically allowed one worker to process only 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆.

With the 𝗞𝗛𝗟 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿, daily output can reach around 𝟯𝟬–𝟱𝟬 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀, depending on profile size, weight and processing complexity.

More material can move through one line, while operations such as 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝘁-𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗯𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 are handled within a more integrated process.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗼

Structural steel fabrication is physically demanding, and experienced workers are increasingly difficult to find and retain.

With profile laser processing, operators focus more on 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, rather than manually completing each individual process.

That makes production less dependent on scarce manual skills and reduces repetitive manual work.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲

After the first 𝗞𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗶 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗛𝗟 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 had been used in real production, the next decisions were based on operating experience.

The plant already knew where profile laser processing fitted into its workflow, which parts suited it, and where additional capacity was needed.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗜𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁

No two fabrication shops have exactly the same production mix. Profiles, part sizes, schedules, labor conditions and existing equipment all affect whether a process is the right fit.

So one plant’s experience is not a universal answer.

But it does offer something useful: 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
