Structural steel is highly non-standard.
Different projects bring different profiles, connection details and coping geometries. That is one reason steel fabrication has traditionally relied so heavily on skilled workers and on-the-spot judgment.
Today, Tekla can turn much of that complexity into precise digital geometry.
But the steel on the machine can still be slightly bowed, twisted or simply loaded at an angle.
𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗧𝗲𝗸𝗹𝗮 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹
A 𝗞𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗶 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗛𝗟 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 can process weld access holes, complex copes, irregular notches, bevel details and other non-standard contours directly on formed structural profiles.
Under suitable conditions, a typical weld access hole takes around 𝟭𝟬 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀 to cut.
Before processing, automatic scanning identifies the actual position of the profile, re-establishes the workpiece coordinates and corrects the cutting position.
𝗧𝗲𝗸𝗹𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲. 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝘀.

Not always.
Weld access holes are a good example.
Even after positioning has been corrected, local variation between the web and flange may still differ slightly from the nominal model.
Trying too aggressively to achieve complete material removal can risk cutting into the parent material.
In some cases, leaving a small amount for finishing is the more practical choice.

Weld access hole details still depend on the member, fabrication sequence, drawing and applicable requirements. The same is true for many other coping details.
3D laser cutting does not make every beam or connection identical.
It makes more of that complexity 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.
